As part of my artistic residency Fela, The Feminine Resistance, I had the opportunity to lead a Kids Photography Workshop at New Culture Studio in Ibadan, with children from Total Parental Guidance Orphanage.
The workshop was designed as an introduction to photography through observation, play, and storytelling. Together, we explored the different parts of a camera, learned how photographs are made, and experimented with simple visual exercises that encouraged the children to observe their surroundings with curiosity and imagination.
Beyond learning technical basics, the workshop became a space for dialogue, creativity, and self-expression. The children's enthusiasm, thoughtful questions, and unique ways of seeing reminded me that photography is first and foremost a way of paying attention to the world around us.
Public engagement has been an important part of this residency. Sharing knowledge and creating spaces where art can be experienced collectively is as meaningful to me as producing the artworks themselves.

This workshop formed part of the public programme accompanying Fela, The Feminine Resistance, an artistic research project developed between Lagos and Ibadan, Nigeria, exploring memory, archives, and the overlooked contributions of the women surrounding Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.
