New Culture Studios is excited to welcome Togolese artist Tessilim Adjayi for a research and production residency centered on Fela, the Feminine Resistance. Through photography, archival research, and visual installation, Tessilim will explore the often-overlooked women who shaped and sustained the world around Fela Anikulapo Kuti; artists, activists, dancers, collaborators, and cultural custodians. By engaging personal archives, interviews, oral histories, and portraiture, this residency seeks to build a living archive of memory, resistance, and feminine agency. The residency will culminate in a multidisciplinary body of work that centers women’s voices as narrators of a shared cultural history. We look forward to supporting this important project and sharing its outcomes with our community.
📌 This mobility was supported by the Africa-Europe Partnerships for Culture: Sub-Saharan Africa – Connect & Create programme, funded by the European Union and implemented by the Goethe-Institut, Expertise France, and Institut français.
Hosted by New Culture Studio.
